In recent years, the European Union has promoted the concept of a just and green transition as a central pillar in tackling the climate crisis and developing more sustainable economies. However, the implementation of this narrative in Latin America raises a number of challenges and questions—particularly on a continent historically marked by extractivism and its severe impacts on local communities and ecosystems.

Our new policy paper, “A Green and Fair Transition – For Whom? An analysis from Latin America”, delves into these issues, exploring both the challenges and the (potential) implications of European policies associated with the green transition for Latin America—a region rich in natural resources and key to Europe’s supply of critical raw materials needed for its own transition.

We warmly invite you to join us for this webinar on 13 May 2025, 16h00-17:30 (CET); 08:00-09:30 (Guatemala), where we will present the policy paper and open up a space for reflection around key questions: What does the EU’s fair and green transition really mean? For whom will it be fair, and for whom green? What does a fair and green transition look like from a Latin American perspective?
