The EU LAT Network joins the claims of national and international organizations, expressing its deep concern about the adoption of the Law for the Regulation of Foreign Agents, which establishes new limitations and new obstacles for the work of non-governmental organizations and human rights defenders in Nicaragua. With this law there will be limitations to the right of exercise and enjoyment of the rights to freedom of opinion and expression; freedom of peaceful assembly and association; and the right to defend human rights. This limitations are incompatible with Nicaragua’s international obligations under human rights agreements.

We call the European Union and its Members States to condemn this measure, which worsens the already unsustainable human rights breaches in Nicaragua.
