Letter to the European Union requesting an Electoral Observation Mission in Peru

From the EU-LAT Network, the Europe Peru-PEP Platform, the Coopération Internationale pour le Développement et la Solidarité – CIDSE, as well as the Coordinator of Foreign Entities of International Cooperation- COEECI, we request the European authorities to send a mission of electoral observation, or a mission of experts, on the occasion of the next general elections in Peru next April.

Peruvian democracy is going through a difficult time and, considering the complexity of an electoral observation mission in the midst of the health emergency, we believe that the European Union must support the Peruvian people in their effort to enforce the rule of law, the holding of elections with due transparency, as well as the adoption of the necessary security measures and sanitary protocols against COVID-19, in the coming election days.
