On May 24, 2024, after long months of discussions and setbacks, the Council of the European Union gave the green light to the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD).

The EU-LAT Network closely followed the discussions around the CSDDD, advocating for a solid
Directive capable of preventing corporate abuses, that included a gender perspective and that allowed
for adequate access to justice for victims.

Unfortunately, after undemocratic pressures from some Member States and the lobby of some
business sectors that tried to sabotage the CSDDD, the text was strongly watered in terms of content and scope. This has resulted in a CSDDD that, while still a step forward, contains many gaps and leaves out a large number of companies whose unregulated activities would produce severe impacts on human rights and the environment in Latin American countries.
