To this day, Colombia continues to be the country with the highest rate of murders of human rights defenders worldwide, and these serious human rights violations have never been recognized by the Government of Colombia.

This very concerning tendency has only deteriorated in the recent years, with an alarming escalation that only at the beginning of 2022 was of at least 19 massacres and 22 social leaders assassinated.

In this regard, the undersigned European civil society organizations, after OIDHACO’s lead, deeply regret that in the two public statements issued after the 7th High-Level Dialogue and the 13th Human Rights Dialogue between the European Union and Colombia, any criticism of the existing of human rights crisis in Colombia is omitted.
