22 MEPs, representatives of various political groups have expressed, through a letter addressed to the President of the Republic of Guatemala, Otto Perez Molina, his Foreign Minister, Fernando Carrera and Congress, concerned about the situation of the judicial independence in the country. The premature termination of the mandate of the General Prosecutor, taken arbitrarily by the Constitutional Court, poses a potential threat to the rule of law and judicial independence in Guatemala. In this situation shown MEPs warn of the need to conduct an election of new judicial positions, including Attorney General, in which all the principles of independence, transparency, impartiality and respect and participation in which it is ensured that the new charges will continue their work in order to end impunity
