On September 7-8, 2017, the EU-CELAC (European union and the community of Latin American and Caribbean States) Civil Society Forum was held in El Salvador. It is the most important bi-regional forum, which on this occasion, brought together more than 100 civil society organisations.

For two days, the organisations discussed the social and political situation in both regions and the state of the bi-regional relations. At the end of the meeting, the CSO signed the Declaration of El Salvador, addressed to the Heads of State and Government of both Europe and Latin America and the Caribbean.

The Declaration calls upon governments of both regions to contribute to socio-economic equality, to ensure the respect of human rights and combating climate change; to foster democracy and promote a better balance between human rights, welfare and trade; to promote equitable and cooperative bi-regional policies; and to promote greater space for civil society.  CIFCA supports this Declaration.
