MEPs have sent a letter to the President of Honduras, Juan Orlando Hernández, and to the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, a letter that has been signed by 32 MEPs from four political groups

“The trial must be conducted in full respect of the principles of impartiality and access to justice. This case is key to the defense of human rights in Honduras and in the entire region of Latin America ” MEPs said in the letter.

More than thirty representatives of the European Parliament from Germany, Belgium, Greece, Ireland, Spain, France, Luxembourg, Portugal, the United Kingdom and Sweden today expressed to the Government of Honduras and the EU their “deep concern about the current state of the open judicial process for the murder of Honduran defender Berta Cáceres and the attempted murder of Mexican environmentalist Gustavo Castro” they have stated in the letter they have sent to the President of the Republic of Honduras, Juan Orlando Hernández, and High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini.
